How to dance the dance
These notes by Andrew Carnie ©2014, based on notes by France Bourque-Moreau. This dance is based on a dance from Villanova de Gaia in Portugal.

Formation: A longwise set of person facing person (in two lines)
Meter: 2/4

Part 1
InstrumentalFacing own R (up and down lines), arms are up with elbows at shoulder height, and hands in loose fists.
bar 0 last & count: lift on L foot.
bar 1 step R forward (down side of line) (1), step L next to R (&), step R (2), lift on R (&) use the lift (&) to change directions
bar 2 repeat bar 1 with opp ftwrk and in opposite direction,
bars 3-8 repeat 3 more times
bar 9 facing partner stamp R three times (1&2) [this bar is omitted the 2nd last time through the dance]
Alternatively, the dancers can do mirrored turning “Vira” steps. (Run Run Both), Both turning up or both turning down the line.
Part 2
Claps facing partnerlift on L foot (&)
bar 1 Step R back (1), Step L back (&), Step R forward (2), arms are down. pause (&),
bar 2 step L in place, clap (1), step R in place, clap (&), Step L in place, clap (2)
bar 3-8 repeat bars 1-2, three more times.
Part 3, Turn and claplift on L foot (&)
bar 1 Step R back (1), Step L back (&), Step R forward (2), arms are down. pause (&),
bar 2 Turning over the right shoulder (CW), step L (1), R (&), L (2), arms are up.
